Family Docs lead the field

Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Family physicians are leaders in adopting EHRs. While others are still talking we are walking straight ahead and implement EHR systems.
According to a recent AAFP survey (459 FP respondents) 37% had fully implemented EHRs while 13% were in the process of EHR implementation.
SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Physicians with practice in an urban area for < 7 years, did not own their practices and worked in practices with at least two other physicians were more likely to implement EHR systems.
2. 53% of all respondents who did not have an EHR cited costs as the major obstacle.
3. 42% of all respondents who did not have an EHR were concerned about decreased productivity.

What can we learn from the survey?

1. Target physicians who meet the above characteristics
2. Teach physicians HOW to use EHRs as a tool to improve efficiency and productivity
3. Teach physicians the value of ROIs (return on investment) of EHRs

Yours

Bernd
